BEST ACTOR
SHAH RUKH KHAN
DIL TO PAGAL HAI
Kamal Haasan has won 17
awards. By that count, I still have 11 more to go. But I'm confident that I'll win an
award every year. I'll work that much harder.
My
joy knew no bounds when I was nominated for Yes Boss. That's a very special film
for me. But winning for a Yash Chopra film, too, was a tremendous high. First, I was
nominated for Darr, then I won for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and now Dil
To Pagal Hai.
Something inside told me that I'd win for DTPH. When the film was released,
initially a lot of industry types wrote the film off. But I was sure that it would turn
out to be a whopper. Some called the film plastic, some said there was no crisis in DTPH.
All I'd like to say is that love is the strongest emotion in the world and the film
conveyed that beautifully.
The other nominees like Anil Kapoor in Virasat, Govinda in Deewana Mastana,
and Kamal Haasan in Chachi 420 gave me the jitters because theirs too were
performances of an award-winning calibre.
I have always maintained that post-mortems are a waste of time. Every year, after the Filmfare
Awards function, controversies rage over who deserved an award and who didn't. The truth
is that the Filmfare Awards have become an institution... everyone without
exception wants to win a trophy. I only wish some stars were a little more sporting about
not getting an award.
