Ever
thought why the wedding was far away from Bombay?
Rakesh
Roshan explained, "If we'd had the wedding in Bombay, we would have had to call more than 10,000 people and it would've been completely unmanageable. So the only other option was to go out of Bombay and have a small, quiet function only for the family. That's the kind of wedding Hrithik really wanted. "He told me, 'Baba, I don't want to stand on the dais and have people coming up endlessly. Let's have a very small affair.' So Sanjay and I decided to go for a small family
function. There was no secrecy about it. Since it was the holiday season, we'd taken the precaution of booking everybody's air tickets. We took a final decision only on December 15.And on 16th morning Pinky and I began calling up family and very close friends like
Jeetendra, Prem Chopra, Rishi, Dabboo, Sujit Kumar, Farhad Nathani and Faroukh
Ruttonsey. Apart from that we didn't really need to do very much. There was no tension at all, no invitation cards to be printed, no formalities. Once in Banglore Sanjay and Zarine had impeccable arrangements at their resort 'Golden Palms'. It's a lovely large place about twenty acres in area and everybody was really well looked after.Of course, since it was only family and friends who were as close as family,we didn't have to go out of our way to make everybody feel at home."
Sanjay
Khan said, "We flew down on the 18th, and Feroz Khan threw a party at his beautiful farm (in
Tumkur, on the outskirts of Bangalore). We had an engagement ceremony on the 19th and the marriage on the 20th. "The marriage ceremony
was really beautiful, they'd erected pillars in the center of the pool and created a small island. Hrithik and Suzanne stood there and signed the marriage register around 9 p.m. on December 20. Yes, they had a registered marriage. There was no
nikkah, no Hindu ceremony. I don't know what Suzanne's family did, whether they had a Koran reading or not, but earlier in the day, we had a haldi ceremony for
Hrithik. We even managed to take the baraat and Hrithik rode a ghodi to his wedding! When the couple exchanged rings earlier, my father-in-law, J. Omji recited the Gayatri mantra and Sanjay Khan also joined in!"
What
did the handsome prince wore on his marriage?
"A jodhpuri designed by Rocky S. I am not
too good with colors. I don't know... its gold and white I think" .. I don't
know about Suzanne, I am not supposed to see her," said Hrithik to the press on the
afternoon of his big day.
It was
Mumbai-based designer, Rocky S who got the prestigious order.
"Hrithik's wedding outfit had to be very special so I gave him a three-layered angarakha in off-white with heavy work in dull gold all over the outfit which was in spun organza and crushed tissue. I also gave him two crushed dupattas - one with a border and the other with kashmiri embroidery. He threw one dupatta around his neck and the other went over an arm and over his shoulder. Hrithik's turban was also in off white and gold. Like I do for his films, I gave him the entire look right down to his
mojris.
Where
did the wedding happened?
The breathtaking 20-acre Golden Palms Resort & Spa in Bangalore by day (left) and by night (right). The Golden Palms, where the golden couple tied the knot, has been described by Sanjay Khan as "a super-spa," with state-of-the-art services and facilities, a complete "life-enhancement center" aimed at total personal rejuvenation, "unparalleled anywhere in the world". Golden Palms kicked off to a terrific start by hosting the wedding of the year 2000. The official inauguration will be in
February and "The wedding was like a trial run," sniggered
bride's father Sanjay Khan
